Its 2021!! 8.1.21

Well Happy New year to you all…’s been a long slog to get here hasn’t it? 2020 totally kicked our butts in so many ways, but here we go, 2021 – lets see what you bring us.

I usually write this blog on New Years Eve, when the kids are tucked up in bed, a big roaring fire, a wee glass of wine and I take such joy looking back through the year of work I have built up, choosing my favourites and putting them all together for you to view. This year I spent New Years eve in my old trackies, painting my bathroom and playing Cluedo at midnight with Rich and the boys. But finally – after several nights at my desk I’ve managed to get this blog finished at last!

I must admit, Covid coming on the scene has changed me. At the beginning of the year I got sucked into a world of researching, devouring every relevant article I could find on the matter and listening to a lot of podcasts. I think I read almost every conspiracy theory there was about this subject, and often found myself in the deepest and darkest of rabbit holes to do with our world. It wasn’t good. It kept me awake at night.

I had to wean myself off doing this because my head was so full of information, misinformation and darkness. I try now to only listen to the news once a day. I follow a very clever man online called Ivor Cummins ( The Fat Emperor) I make sure I get daily exercise and fresh air ( combined if possible) and I have stopped worrying that maybe Bill Gates is trying to inject us all with a microchip and that our governments are lying to us and rubbing their hands together each night at the thought of their evil plan. No, I’m done with that nonsense. That said, I do feel our world will change, and that those at the top will use the opportunities covid has given them to bring in a new system. But right now, I’m back homeschooling again, and honestly I barely have time for anything else other than that and keeping a constant flow of snacks to them.

I am taking pleasure in the simple things and the positives from last year. The main one was how much time, real quality time, I got to spend with my children. What a pleasure that has been ( bar homeschool lol). And also how much time I got to spend at the beach – my favourite, favourite place…..thank you to all who travelled up to have your sessions there…..I hope I will be doing more of those again this year.

One of my favourite films is called ‘ About Time’. If you haven’t seen it, you should. It’s a really beautiful film which teaches us to appreciate the smallest of things. And I do. I wake up full of gratitude every single morning. I have always been able to find beauty in the little things. Evie’s hair in a high ponytail, the laughter that echoes though my house when they all play together. Winter sunshine streaming through my home…

And in my line of work I see these moments echoed every time I meet a new family, photograph a wedding, watch someone busy and enjoying their work. I love it. I love capturing it. I feel so so lucky I get to be the one to give people those memories, things maybe I see that they possibly might miss.

To those many couples this year who had to postpone their special days, my heart really ached for you, but when it comes around again, its going to be even better than before, because you will have been so starved of connection in 2020 that to have your wedding the way you want it, with all your loved ones, it’ll be one big, emotional, amazing party and I cannot wait to get shooting these again.

That said, the weddings which did go ahead this year were incredible. The smaller, more intimate gatherings were such a joy. Less time pressure, pure love, married because they just really wanted to go ahead and get married. Sure there were a few restrictions on your days, but when I was there working, I hardly felt them and I know you didn’t either.

So, ok, i’m rambling, as I have tendency to do…….Here’s a snippet of what I shot in 2020. Lets pray by Summer 2021 we will be well on the way to normality again.

Thank you everyone. Your continual support to my wee business has meant so much, especially in 2020. I can’t wait to be allowed to get shooting again! x

GMINI Cover Shoot Feb 18′

53_CoverA few weeks ago on a particularly cold morning I had the exciting opportunity to shoot the cover for the Spring / Summer issue of Getting Married in Northern Ireland Magazine.

Its available in the shops now, but I wanted to share a few more of my favourites from this shoot.  We kept it all very simple and styling remained the same throughout, but it makes me sad that only one photo gets published  – Our model, Juudit is way too beautiful to just live on my hard drive !

Loved working with this fabulous team of girls at the stunning new ballroom of the SilverBirch Hotel ❤  Thank you so much for asking me Dawn. x

Happy New Year 2017/2018

NM-87New Years Eve.  It used to be a night where I would pick out a ridiculous skimpy outfit, stand in queues, dance, get shoved about, freeze in the cold waiting on a taxi home and sleep the entire next day.  It’s now a night where I cosy up with my family, watch a movie at a big roaring fire, likely in my pyjamas, and write my end of year blog. Oh how times have changed LOL.

I have spent hours upon hours searching through my 2017 folders and picking out my favourites, certain there are hundreds that I have missed, but here is a glimpse into my year 2017.  As always, looking back leaves me with a very full heart and a lot of job satisfaction, my wee world is full of smiling, happy people and it is beautiful. I am so grateful every single day.

THANK YOU so much for all your support  – I wouldn’t have these lovely images to share if it weren’t for my wonderful clients. You are all AWESOME!!

I’ve been enjoying my little hibernation time so much, but I must admit I am ready to go again next week, ready to see what a wonderfully mixed bag of work comes my way in 2018 – and my one resolution is to blog more and step up my instagram / Facebook so be sure to give me a wee follow there.

So HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all. May it be full of love, fun and good health.

See you in 2018! x

The Hair Lounge 24.5.17

Packed a whole lot into our shoot for The hair lounge today.  Interiors, details, staff shots and then Erin, the most stunning wee model who has left me with complete hair envy!

Catherine (the owner) and I have worked together a few times now, but this was the first in her gorgeous salon in Dromore.  Its so warm and inviting as you walk in the door. Lots of natural light and a beautiful ‘pamper area’ down the back with that fabulous mirror.  I must admit I love a salon that combines hair and makeup in one place, somewhere you can leave looking and feeling completely transformed, you definitely get that here. The girls are so lovely and the styling is gorgeous ❤

So, as is fairly usual on my shoots, we don’t make a set plan until I arrive and then as we start to shoot or notice little cool locations, it all just clicks together. Also I get a little excited when I have a model like Erin, who you could literally pin a bin liner on and she would still make it look amazing.  Ooh and I found a blue door – I flippin LURVE blue doors lol!

So with the focus on the hair and makeup we kept the styling really simple.  I love the shots – and hope you and all involved will too. Enjoy.

Side story:-  As I was shooting Erin I had this idea that a massive pink bubblegum would look totally awesome…….finding said bubblegum not so easy ( when did hubba bubba turn white???). Blowing the massive bubble proved even more difficult……..but we made it work 😉 x

Thank you again to Catherine for asking me to shoot for her.  I am loving working with all these beautiful salons and they tell me the shots are really useful for their profiles and social media – so if yours need updating…..give me a call 🙂 x

Leona 16.5.17

LG-23So about this time of year when I’m out shooting lots of gorgeous weddings and babies and our newsfeed are filled with these images, I like to throw myself into a creative project or two…..

Leona is a mummy I stand in line with to pick our kids up from school, she has 4 of them can you believe???!!!! Total stunner!

I asked her to model for me a few weeks ago when I was in the early stages of an idea involving paint.  Today it all came together with the help of the very  lovely & talented Sinead from Pure Perfection in Fintona.  ( Local talent all the way today!).

We had a lot of fun, my studio is a complete bomb site, but it was completely worth it as I love how the images have turned out.

Hope you like them too.  Leave the girls a wee comment – they worked really hard for me . x

Side note:- Smoke bombs are NOT for indoor use…….tried, tested, studio was filled with billowing yellow smoke….yeah……not for indoors…..but good crack all the same LOL! x

Carino May 16′

OK.  SO, today, I share with you a little taster of what is available in store at the fabulous Carino Boutique, Omagh.  Olga and Avanda are two of the loveliest girls you will ever meet. If a conversation with either of them doesn’t leave you with a smile on your face, then I don’t know what will.  They have such enviable style and have built such an impressive business up in Omagh, they should be very proud.  What began as an exclusive shoe boutique, has, over the years, developed into the ‘go to’ place for all your accessory needs.  And now….the fantastic news…..they are also stocking the most beautiful dresses and outfits too. HOORAY!!!  Little quirky crop tops and full skirts, stylish shift dresses and sweet little outfits….Carino is now becoming a one stop shop if you have an occasion to go to.

With Michelle Gracey, Lynn Cochrane and Aisleen Conway on Hair and Makeup, Marie-Louise Rainey and Olga McCarney Styling, a team of girls I now know so well, you can imagine the laughter and crack we had in the studio that day.   We were almost left without a model, but at the last moment we were very lucky (and grateful) to have the beautiful Tori step in and rock every look we gave her 🙂

I feel so lucky this year, I have had so many gorgeous boutiques to work with and see all the beautiful styles coming into the stores…..only wish I had an occasion to wear them…..ooh actually I do 🙂 a gorgeous invite to the Wedding Journal Reader Awards has just popped up on my email…..WOW guys – THANK YOU! THANK YOU! for all your votes….lets hope for a win, but I will be happy I have an excuse to buy a new frock and go on a date with my handsome hubby 🙂 🙂 Thank you for that 🙂

So, as I mentioned, this is just a peep at what is available in store, get yourself into Carino to see the rest. Enjoy. x

Creative Collaborations May 16′

Sharing with you today some colourful and quirky imagery with Make Up by The Face Angel and hair by Orla Rafferty, Clothes from Rustic Runway and pulling it all together, our beautiful model, Kathryn McMahon.

Since there was no set theme in mind, I went and choose some cool pieces with the help of lovely Ann-Louise from Rustic Runway, there I spied this amazing bird headpiece by the awesome Margaret O’Connor.  Sometimes all I need is one element to inspire a whole shoot!

I knew this shoot would be bright and colourful and upon seeing the clothes, the stylists, Orla and Karol, knew the direction things were heading and set their skills to work.

Karol arrived that morning with boxes full of accessories and clothing, even props and we had fun pulling the looks together.  She even brought along her little daughter, Willow, who I think had the most fun out of everyone that day as she proceeded to colour herself in face paints and glitter…..oh to be the daughter of a Make-up Artist….especially one who lets her be free to play 🙂

Karol has trained under both Paddy McGurgan and Oonagh Bowman, she has a fantastic set of skills as a make up artist, but also provides ‘High Brows’ and even hosts fabulous Pamper parties for little girls which look like so much fun at The Face Angel.  Her latest venture ‘Foss‘ is also worth checking out, building self esteem for women in need.  A worthy cause indeed 🙂

And Orla, she is an amazing hairstylist and the sweetest, most lovely girl to work with, I have worked with her before and she does such beautiful wedding hair, but on this shoot I pushed her into doing mad, crazy, messy hair, having no idea what a neatness lover she is ( Sorry Orla!!) But please check out her page ‘Orla’s Hair Salon‘ – you will see her gorgeous braids, colours and up-styles and we are putting together another shoot soon to show off her other side 😉 So watch out for her name again.

Lastly a huge thank you to our  beautiful model Kathryn, you were an absolute pleasure to shoot and we loved your look.  Hope to work with you again in the future 🙂

Enjoy the pics everyone x

Queen Bee Spring/ Summer 16′

The gorgeous new Spring / Summer collection is now available at Queen Bee.  Here is a little glimpse of what is available in this beautiful store.

Linda has fast become one of my most favourite clients. She will call or email me

“Erica, I need a shoot….here’s what I would like…..”

….and I do the rest. But I must admit – she really stumped me on the location for this one. I spent days scouting for the ‘simplicity’ she had requested – until it dawned on me to contact the people who actually make these gorgeous wall panels.  HUGE HUGE THANK YOU to Louise from Woodmarque Joinery – you were so kind to let us use your beautiful showroom and it was absolutely perfect to showcase the clothes in this collection.

Linda has told me she prefers to spend her advertising budget on a unique showcase such as this one rather than too many wedding fayres or print adverts ( although those are great too) but this is what works for her.  She is an absolute delight to work with and hopefully there will be many more collections to come – we always have a blast.  Till then – get your tan on and get ready for a beautifully brightly coloured summer.  Enjoy.  x

Hair Therapy and Heavenly Beauty

Finally able to share with you this funky shoot for the very lovely and Maria Patton from Hair Therapy.

We shot these at the studio a few weeks ago and it was so much fun. Our gorgeous wee model Wiktoria was a complete professional and up for any ideas we threw at her  (and I had lots!!) I had been to McDermott’s Hardware that morning to buy chain, duck tape and a cement bag – my husband laughed when he seen me coming into the studio with these items!!! “what is she at now? lol”.

Since these images were also to be used for the Loreal Colour trophy, our main focus for this collaboration was on the hair, and to bring out the stunning colours Maria had applied that morning.

Leanne, did an amazing job on the makeup and the whole look came together pretty quickly.

Really enjoying each and every one of these collaborations – so far every day has been something completely different and my little brain is working hardon new creative ideas  which was the whole point.  Keep them coming x
